MBA CET Preparation Tips & Tricks:- The following are very effective strategies which you can apply when using past CET 4 papers as part of your preparation: Part I: Essay Writing (15%; 30 minutes) 1. Write at least 5 different types of essays, including problem-solving, advantages and disadvantages, graph description and analysis, argumentative essay and practical writing. You should do it in 3 steps: timed practice according to the guideline; compare your essay with the sample essay to find out what better structures and words you can use; and write the essay again. 2. Remember that the content and language used in your essay will be marked, so try to avoid common grammatical mistakes, such as agreement, parts of speech and tenses. Part II: Reading: Skimming and Scanning (10%; 15 minutes) 1. Skim title, subtitles, topic sentences and major explanations for main ideas 2. Remember the topic sentence is often after the signal words “but / however”. 3. Scan key words (proper noun, number, bolded, underlined or italicized words, and subject and action verb) in the question, and then accordingly scan the information from the passage. 4. Compare the meaning of the sentence found in the passage with the meaning of the question to decide the answer. Part III: Listening Comprehension (35%; 35 minutes) 1. Predict the possible questions using the repeated words in the options (a – d) when the directions are being read. 2. Listen actively for implied meanings. This strategy is especially important for doing 8 short conversations. 3. Listen for main ideas. Main ideas are usually revealed at the beginning and/ or the end of long conversations and short passages. For almost every long conversation and passage there is a question about the main idea. 4. Take notes based on the options: this strategy is especially important when you listen to long conversations and short passages. 5. Skim the passage for the main ideas while the direction in Compound Dictation is being read. 6. Try to write a few letters of a long word and a few words of a sentence first, and then to fill in more letters and more words after each round of reading. During the one-minute pause, complete the sentence by the context clue. Part IV: Reading in Depth (25%; 25 minutes) 1. Skim the passage for main ideas first and then answer the questions one by one. 2. Draw inferences from context clues and from your own knowledge as well. 3. Compare the differences between 2 similar options first and then decide the answer. 4. Analyze the part of speech of each word in the box and choose an appropriate word for each blank according to its function in the sentence while doing Section A of this part. Part V: Cloze Test (10%; 15 minutes) 1. Skim the passage for main idea first and then answer the questions without any pause. 2. Mark the questions you are not sure about and come back to them again later. 3. Note that for this part over 70% questions are based on the context clue. Part VI: Translation (5%; 5 minutes) 1. Think of a pattern to translate each sentence. 2. Remember that the part you have translated must grammatically fit in the sentence context.
