Four year degree course offered as an off campus program of the BITS Pilani. The course is approved by Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) and meets the requirements as prescribed in the META Manual of the DGS.
Educational Criteria
1. A pass in Senior Secondary Examination (10+2) or its equivalent from any Govt. recognised Board (passed in first attempt).
2. Minimum 60% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM)..
3. Min. 50% marks in English either in Class X or Class XII..
Age
Below 25 years.
Medical Examination
Medical Examinations are conducted by institute recognised Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) approved Doctors. Standard of such medical examination is general in nature and can be obtained from the Doctors on request.
Eye Sight
1. Shall be neither “colour blind” nor “ night blind”.
2. Power for each eye is permitted upto ± 2.5.

The minimum eligibility for courses in nautical science and Marine engineering is 10+2 or an equivalent examination with physics, chemistry and mathematics. He should also pass a medical fitness test for sea service under standard norms and with eyesight 6/6 with no color blindness.
Candidates wishing to enter the navigational and engineering fields of Merchant Navy need to complete a Bachelors degree in Nautical Science or Marine engineering, before they can gain admission to the field.

Ans : dear u can undergo GEC course to get converted to marine engineer. The GEC course is for the duration of around 15 months and the entire training is completed in 3 phases as under: Phase 1: 5 months Pre-Sea training at Academy in Bangkok Phase 2: 8 months Sea training on board Ship. (You shall be paid a stipend of around USD 200 – 400 per month depending on the Ship. (The Institute assures 100/% Placements for sea training on board ships which is a pre - requisite to get the job with the Shipping Companies.)
