About Deck Cadet Course
Here are the details of Deck Cadet Course including duration, Eligibility, Admission Criteria, Fees and Syllabus.
Mode of Entry & Selection :- Cadets who are sponsored directly by the shipping companies, before they join their ships for their initial sea training.
Eligibility:-
a) All unmarried citizens of India.
b) Not more than 20 yrs. of age on the date of commencement of course.
c)
(i) Passed 10 + 2 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics & English. Minimum 60% in PCM.
(ii) For B.Sc. degree holders, minimum 55% marks in PCM subjects with age limit of 22 yrs.
(iii) For B. E. / B.Tech. degree holders, minimum 55% marks in PCM subjects with age limit of 23 yrs.
Duration:- Three months : Three courses commencing in Jan./May/Sep. of each year.
No. of seats per course - 120 per course.
Cost of Training:- Rs. 46,000/- (which includes boarding, lodging, uniforms, books & IMO modular courses.
About the College
Training Ship Chanakya Located on India's West coast near Mumbai, Training Ship Chanakya is a shore-based academy managed and maintained by the Govt. of India, Ministry of Surface Transport through the Directorate General of Shipping. The three year degree course here culminates in the award of a B.Sc. (Nautical Sciences) degree from the University of Mumbai. It also imparts training for three months Pre-sea course. The cadets who successfully complete training at this institute are eligible for taking up jobs not only on board Indian ships but also on foreign vessels. It is common knowledge that trained Indian Merchant Navy officers are in great demand the world over, for their proficiency, expertise and dedication to their profession. It is noteworthy to mention that the Nautical Training imparted in this institution is of a very high quality and in accordance with the standards and norms laid down by the international bodies like the International Maritime Organisation.

The minimum eligibility for courses in nautical science and Marine engineering is 10+2 or an equivalent examination with physics, chemistry and mathematics. He should also pass a medical fitness test for sea service under standard norms and with eyesight 6/6 with no color blindness.
Candidates wishing to enter the navigational and engineering fields of Merchant Navy need to complete a Bachelors degree in Nautical Science or Marine engineering, before they can gain admission to the field.
