Institute of Shipbuilding Technology was established in the year 1981. ISBT is the only institute in India to be established and managed by a group of Industries. Institute of Shipbuilding Technology is appoved by AICTE. ISBT being established and run by Shipbuilding Industry Society of Goa, has a good liason with Industries in Goa and hence provides students easy access to industries for Project Work, Short Term/Long Term Training, etc. The college provides guaranteed placements facilities to the students. Ans : dear u can undergo GEC course to get converted to marine engineer. The GEC course is for the duration of around 15 months and the entire training is completed in 3 phases as under: Phase 1: 5 months Pre-Sea training at Academy in Bangkok Phase 2: 8 months Sea training on board Ship. The minimum eligibility for courses in nautical science and Marine engineering is 10+2 or an equivalent examination with physics, chemistry and mathematics. He should also pass a medical fitness test for sea service under standard norms and with eyesight 6/6 with no color blindness.
Candidates wishing to enter the navigational and engineering fields of Merchant Navy need to complete a Bachelors degree in Nautical Science or Marine engineering, before they can gain admission to the field.
