Brief Description : Modeling for Games requires a specific production pipeline that is unique and different from a film production pipeline. In this course, we will venture into a detailed modeling pipeline and a step by step process for creating a lion head model. Once the modeling process is over, we venture into UV Layout techniques and on to painting textures for the model. Finally, we apply the textures to the lion head and finish the model which is ready to be used. This course is designed for intermediate users of Autodesk 3ds max and is covered as high resolution video lectures.
Course Outline      

Week 1 | Getting Started
In the first week of the course, we get started with setting up our 3ds max workspace and customizing various attributes to enable us to work comfortably and efficiently.  We will also look into logical file naming and folder structures before getting down to preparing our front and side image planes in Photoshop and importing them into Photoshop. We end week one by a look at some of the essential modeling tools in 3ds max. Also covered is a look at the modeling/texturing pipeline.          

     
Week 2 | Blocking the Lion Head Model
In the second week of the course, we get down and dirty with blocking out the lion head model using a game engine friendly topology structure. Once blocked, we continue refining the model well into Week 3.      
     
Week 3 | Finishing the Lion Head Model
In week three, we go up one notch from the previous week's blocked model and finish refining the topology of the mesh and get it ready for UV Layout and Texturing.      
     
Week 4 | UV Mapping & Layout
So you have a great looking lion head model by now. Lets dive straight in to UV Mapping & Layout and demystify this dark art. We will layout the UVs this week using 3ds max' UVW Unwrap modifier and ready the model for texture painting.      
     
Week 5 | Painting Textures with Adobe Photoshop - I
In week five, we begin painting textures as per the UV Layout done in the previous week using Adobe Photoshop. We paint the textures using a combination of photo references and brush paint.      
     
Week 6 | Painting Textures with Adobe Photoshop - II
In week six, we continue painting textures and apply our completed texture to the lion head model.      
     
Week 7 | Modeling the Inner Parts of the Mouth
In week seven, we begin modeling the inner parts of the mouth. After all, our lion would roar and we don't want to disappoint game players by showing an empty void in there. Once the inner parts of the mouth are modeled, we ready the model for the some texture based hair/fur work in week eight.      
     
Week 8 | Painting Alpha Maps & Wrapping Up
In the last week of the course, we texture paint alpha maps to do some really convincing hair/fur work before wrapping up the model and marking it final to go into a game production pipeline.      
Requirements
Skill Level
Students pursuing this course must have basic-intermediate knowledge of Autodesk 3ds max and Adobe Photoshop. Students must possess basic working knowledge of the Modeling tools and must be aware of the workflow in 3ds max.

Software
Students would need Autodesk 3ds max 6 or up and Adobe Photoshop 7 or up. You may download trial editions of Autodesk 3ds max by clicking here.

Hardware
Students would require a PC with minimum 2Ghz processor, 1GB RAM and a good GPU. However, we recommend a Intel Core 2 Duo / AMD based workstation with 2GB RAM and a GeForce 8/9 OR a Quadro level GPU for optimum work experience.

Internet
Due to the high resolution of the video lectures, the lecture files have high file sizes, hence we recommend a Broadband level connection with atleast 128 KBPS download speed and a high/unlimited monthly download limit.
