About M.E(Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) Course

Here are the details of M.E(Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) Course including duration, Eligibility, Admission Criteria, Fees and Syllabus.

ME programmes are develop the engineering /technical manpower of the highest quality to cater to the needs of industry, R&D organizations and educational institutions.

Every ME programme consists of courses in mathematics, research methodology, departmental core courses and elective courses in the first and second semesters of the programme. The elective courses should be in the area which improves student’s focus, preferably in the area of thesis work. The third and fourth semesters are meant for thesis work, in which a student woks on a chosen topic for investigation/study in consultation with the thesis supervisor.

Duration:- 2 year (4 semesters)

- BE/B. Tech. or an equivalent degree with at least 60 percent marks equivalent CGPA.

Admission Criteria:- The admission to ME programmes is regulated through valid GATE scores. However, non-GATE candidates can also be considered after conducting test and/or interview.


The students admitted to M.E. programmes may get scholarships on the basis of valid GATE scores. The said scholarship shall be in accordance with the set procedure and guidelines. The students will have to perform duties specified in the guidelines. The candidates admitted without having qualified GATE shall not be entitled to the above scholarship

Total minimum credits Required for completion of ME degree = 64
Through course work = 32 credits (Minimum)
Through Thesis work= 24 credits (Minimum)

About the College

The Punjab Engineering College (Deemed University) Chandigarh was orginally established as Mugalpura Engineering College at Lahore (now in Pakistan) on November 9, 1921. The name of the college was later changed to Maclagan Engineering College and its started functioning under the name on March 19, 1924. In the year 1931, the college got affiliated to Punjab University, Lahore. After partition in 1947, the college was shifted to Roorkee (India) and was renamed as East Punjab College of Engineering. In the year 1950 the word East was dropped and it came to know by its present name - Punjab Engineering College. Towards the end of December 1953, the college shifted to its present campus in Chandigarh to function under Govt. of Punjab. In 1966, with the formation of Union Territory of Chandigarh, the college same under control of Govt. of India through Chandigarh Administration. In October 2003, the Govt. of India notified the Pujab Engineering College as a Deemed to be University. In 1994 this institution was adjudged the best technical college in India by the National Foundation of Engineers. It occupies an area of 146 acres.

Up to 1962, the college comprised of engineering departments of Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. Thereafter the college expanded & five new departments in the fields of Aeronautical Engineering, Electronics & Electrical Communication Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Production Engineering and Computer Science Engineering were added gradually. Recently a new department of Information & Technology has been added. In the year 1957, Highway Engineering was added as the first post-graduate course in the college. Gradually other post-graduate courses were subsequently added. Presently there are eleven post-graduate courses leading to Masters of Engineering degree in Highways, Structures, Hydraulics and Irrigation, Rotodynamic Machines, Electrical Power Systems, Environmental Engineering (Interdisciplinary), Electronics Metallurgical Engineering and C.I.M. Facilities for post-graduate studies exist for regular as well as for part time students .The college has facilities for research work leading to the award of Ph.D. degree in engineering in certain selected fields of different disciplines. The college also offers consultancy services in different disciplines.

The college is situated in Sector 12 at the north end of Chandigarh. The premises of the college is within a few minutes walk from the Punjab and Haryana Civil Secretariat, the Panjab University, Post graduate Institute Of Medical Education And Research (PGI). The campus is 9 Km from the Chandigarh Railway station and 5 Km from the main Bus Stand.

The college campus extends over an area of 146 acres of the land situated close to the beautiful Shivalik hills.

Other Institutes in India offering courses in Robotics: National Institute of Technology, the University of Hyderabad- M.Tech in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Prasanthinilayam, Tamil Nadu- M.Tech, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) Mechanical (Robotics as an elective subject).

Ans : It all depends upon ur interest. If u r interested in pursuing higher education after your Btech the options are M Tech , MCA, if u r good in programming and want to work in IT sector else do a MBA if u want to pursue a career in Management.. I would advise u to work after ur BE for atleast 2 -3 yrs. and then do a full time or part time MBA.
