dear u can undergo GEC course to get converted to marine engineer. The GEC course is for the duration of around 15 months and the entire training is completed in 3 phases as under: Phase 1: 5 months Pre-Sea training at Academy in Bangkok Phase 2: 8 months Sea training on board Ship. (You shall be paid a stipend of around USD 200 – 400 per month depending on the Ship. (The Institute assures 100/% Placements for sea training on board ships which is a pre - requisite to get the job with the Shipping Companies.) COC3 course at IIMS ,Karnataka after 10+2 provides you with the stipend paid on board ship training paying 20000-25000 / month. after which students get placed at salaries ranging from Rs. 1.5- 2 lacs a month. The minimum eligibility for courses in nautical science and Marine engineering is 10+2 or an equivalent examination with physics, chemistry and mathematics. He should also pass a medical fitness test for sea service under standard norms and with eyesight 6/6 with no color blindness.
Candidates wishing to enter the navigational and engineering fields of Merchant Navy need to complete a Bachelors degree in Nautical Science or Marine engineering, before they can gain admission to the field.
