Description

Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) was established in 1989. It is a centre of excellence for teaching and research in the mathematical sciences. Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) is managed by a Governing Council consisting of eminent persons. Today, CMI is a rare example of public-private partnership in research and education in India. The Institute receives major private funding, side by side with substantial financial support from the Government of India.

The institute occupies a unique position in Indian academia, attracting substantial funding from both corporate and government sources. The research groups in Mathematics and Computer Science at CMI are among the best known in the country.It is one of the best institute in Tamil Nadu.

Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) Courses offered

  • B.Sc. (Hons.) in Mathematics and Computer Science

    The BSc (Honours) Mathematics and Computer Science curriculum covers basic and advanced undergraduate courses in Mathematics. The programme also includes a number of courses on fundamental topics in Computer Science, including the design and analysis of algorithms, programming languages and computability theory. The courses are taught by active researchers in mathematics and computer science who draw on their professional expertise to offer new insights into the subject material.

    Duration:-     Three years

    Eligibility:- 12th standard or equivalent.

  • BSc (Honours) Physics

    The BSc (Honours) Physics curriculum covers basic undergraduate courses in Physics in topics such as classical mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, statistical and quantum physics. It also includes courses in programming and mathematics and offers an introduction to some advanced topics like relativity, cosmology, quantum field theory and condensed matter physics.

    Duration:- Three years

    Eligibility:- 12th standard or equivalent.

  • M.Sc (Applications of Mathematics)

    The MSc programme in Applications of Mathematics, which will commence in 2010, has a slightly different structure. The programme is currently oriented towards two streams, financial mathematics and applications in computation. The first year of the two year course consists of two regular semesters of course work. The second year will have two shorter terms of course work, followed by an internship or project.

    Duration:-     Two years

    Eligibility:- B.Sc.(Math,Physics,Statistics)/B.Math/B.Stat/B.E./B.Tech.

  • M.Sc (Computer Science)

    Duration:- Two years

    Eligibility:-     B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc.(C.S.) or B.Sc.(Math) with a strong background in C.S.

  • M.Sc (Mathematics)

    MSc in Mathematics curriculum takes students into more advanced topics in the subject. The course structure is flexible and designed so that students can lay a firm foundation for pursuing further research while also acquiring advanced skills that will enhance their effectiveness in professional careers.

    Duration:- Two years

    Eligibility:- B.Sc.(Math)/B.Math/B.Stat/B.E./B.Tech.

  • Ph.D (Computer Science)

    Mode:- Part time

    Eligibility:-  B.E/B.Tech/M.Sc.(C.S.)/M.C.A.

  • Ph.D (Mathematics)

    Mode:- Part time

    Eligibility:-  B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc.(Math)/M.Sc.(Math).
