The Government Medical College, Kottayam was established in 1990. The college has affiliated by Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala

In 1991 First batch of 50 MBBS students were selected and accommodated at Medical College Thiruvananthapuram from 01.08.196.
