Hidayatullah National Law University is a Residential University and is sixth in the series of National Law Schools in India. HNLU has been included in the list of the Universities maintained by the University Grants Commission under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 and has been declared fit to receive Central assistance in terms of the rules framed under Section 12 (B) of the UGC Act, 1956. The university is recognized by the Bar Council of India under section 7 of the Advocates Act. Hon'ble Mr. Justice S.H. Kapadia, the Chief Justice of India is the Visitor of the University, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Rajeev Gupta, the Chief Justice of High Court of Chattisgarh is the Chancellor and Dr. Anand Pawar, is the  Vice-Chancellor(In-charge) of the University.

  • B.A.LL.B. (Hons.)

    The B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) Programme is made strictly on the basis of merit as assessed through a National Entrance Test conducted for the purpose by the Admission Committee, appointed by the Vice Chancellor. The test will carry a maximum of 150 marks and a candidate must obtain the minimum 50% marks of the total marks in N.E.T. to qualify for admission to the course. The admission test is for the purpose of testing (a) linguistic ability; (b) analytical skills; (c) level of quantum of information; (d) mathematical aptitude; (e) legal reasoning; and (f) aptitude for learning law. Some preliminary psychological ability test may also be included.

    Candidates appearing for Standard XII examination in the year of admission shall also be permitted to take the National Entrance Test, but their admission to the course shall be subject to fulfilling the conditions stipulated in the Regulations at the time of admission and production of documentary evidence of their eligibility. All admissions shall be completed before 15th May of every year.


  • LL.M.

    The LL.M. course is a two-year programme consisting of four Semesters. The LL.M. course at HNLU is reorganized based on the report of the Curriculum Development Committee (CDC) of UGC (University Grants Commission). All the candidates have to undergo the prescribed compulsory courses.

    ADMISSION PROCEDURE:- Eligible candidates should apply in the prescribed form with supporting attested documents before 04.08.2006 in the University Office. Application forms can be obtained from the Registrar by sending a demand draft for Rs.1000/- (Rupees One Thousand only) non-refundable drawn in favour of the Registrar, Hidayatullah National Law University, Chhattisgarh. Candidates for LLM. course shall be selected by the Admission Committee consisting of the Vice Chancellor as Chairman and other members of the Faculty nominated by the Vice Chancellor as members, based on assessment of performance at the interview to be held on 05.08.2006 at 10.00 a.m., to determine the aptitude for higher studies and research.

    There are total 10 seats out of which 2 seats are reserved for SC candidates and 1 Seat for ST candidate.
    Eligibility For Admission & Age limit

    A candidate for admission to LL.M. Course should have passed LL.B./B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Degree or its equivalent from a recognized University and should have secured at least 55% of marks in aggregate of the maximum marks prescribed.

    General Candidates:-

    Below 30 years as on 01.08.2006
    SC/ST Candidates     - Below 32 years as on 01.08.2006

  • Ph.D - Law

    Duration:- Full-time Minimum of 2 years and maximum of 5 years


    (i) An applicant holding a Masters Degree in Law from a recognised University with 55% marks in the qualifying examination or a degree approved by Association of Indian Universities, or any other equivalent qualification recognized by the University, in the relevant field, with 55% marks.
    (ii) Any Masters Degree in Law with 55% marks obtained from any of the Universities outside India, and that has been so recognized by the Indian Association of Universities, New Delhi.
    (iii) For applicants belonging to SC/ST category a relaxation of 5% in marks shall be admissible under eligibility conditions prescribed under sub-clauses 1(i) and (ii).
