Indian Institute of Management Calcutta was the first national institute for the management studies established by the government of India. The institute has developed itself to a great extent to get worldwide reputation in the field of management and research education. The institute was started in the year 1961 with a view to impart quality education in the field of management studies. It has been playing a pioneering role in professionalising Indian management through its Post Graduate and Doctoral level programs, Executive Training Programs, Research and Consulting Activities.
IIM Calcutta started functioning from Emerald Bower, Barrackpur Trunk Road. From its very inception, the Institute has been a melting pot of academic talent. The institute is located in its own sprawling 135 acres campus in Joka, away from the hustle and bustle of the metropolis. IIM Calcutta has one of the most breath-takingly beautiful academic campuses in the country - spotted with scenic locales, five lakes, exotic birds, and a miniature Howrah Bridge.
The institute’s Bidhan Chandra Roy library was started initially with a liberal Ford foundation grant, and over the last 36 years has grown into a major learning resource center in South Asia.Housing over 1,50,000 volumes,this imposing repository of knowledge is housed in a spacious building between the Students' Hostels and the Academic Block, overlooking the blue lakes at its eastern and northern sides.It also subscribes to several hundred journals and provides access to a exhaustive collection of eletronic databases which provide information about global and indian industry.
The institute firmly believes that a manager needs to have a well-groomed personality. To ensure this, sports are given their due importance. The institute has excellent sports facilities, which include volleyball court, basketball court, a football ground, Lawn tennis court, TT rooms and Badminton courts.All of these are fully illuminated and the action often happens round the clock. One can regularly see the health freaks trying to keep themselves fit by jogging and at the same time enjoying the picturesque beauty of the campus.
A state-of-art gym complex with trained instructor helps students remain fighting fit. There is also a large swimming pool on campus providing students with multitude of options in deciding their fitness regime.
IIM Calcutta Admissions
The students can seek admissions in IIM Calcutta with the following criteria:
- CAT Score 2012
- Personal Interview (PI)
- Writing Ability Test (WAT)
- Work experience
Course Fees: For 1st, 2nd, and 3rd term total fees is Rs.660000.
For 4th, 5th, and 6th term total fees is Rs. 700000.
IIM Calcutta Placements
IIM Calcutta offers a wide range of recruitment services to its students. The institute has finished its placements for the PGDM and PGDCM classes of 2011 with 464 offers for a total strength of 381 students. ICICI and McKinsey & Co were the two largest recruiters this year.
Summer Placements:-
Summer Internship is one of an important and integral part of the Post-Graduate Programme, where students intern with their chosen organization for 8-9 weeks after their first year. The internship programme helps students gain first-hand experience in a particular industry and provides them with ample opportunities to innovate, and challenge ideas and techniques imbibed in the first year. The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Calcutta closed the summer placement process for the batch of 2011-13 with students getting training projects across 142 companies. The participating companies were Barclays Capital, Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, Nomura, BoA Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, JPMC, HSBC (Global), BCG, Bain, McKinsey and AT Kearney.
Lateral Placements:-
Lateral placements happen over an extended period in the final term for students having substantial work experience with firms offering higher than entry-level positions. The students with more than 22 months of fulltime work experience were eligible to participate in lateral placement process. The participating companies were Barclays Bank, Accenture, PWC, Shell, ABG, RPG, Hinduja, Amazon, Microsoft, and Deloitte.
Final Placements:-
Final placements happen during the last term. A formidable array of the best companies in India and the world visit the campus year after year searching for the best talent. A total of 129 companies made offers during the placements process that lasted 5 days. The participating companies were UBS, Morgan Stanley, Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, Bank of America – Merril Lynch, ICICI Securities, India Infoline, KPMG, PWC, Vodafone, Aircel, Flipkart, Asian Paints and Castrol, RPG, Tata Steel, Raymond, Hindustan Unilever, ITC, J&J Consumer Products, Nokia and Kraft Cadbury.
