Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) offer engineering education with science based fundamentals at Undergraduate level (B.Tech), Postgraduate level (M.Tech), Doctoral level (Ph.D) and advanced Research Programmes. IITs also offer Masters and Doctoral level programmes in various Science disciplines as well as in Humanities, Social Science and Management. IITs are vigorously engaged in high quality national and internationally funded sponsored research and Industrial Consultancy. They have also incubated and nurtured several centers of academic and research excellence in various cutting edge technologies and sciences.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is a global brand today that offers highest quality education on global competition. New knowledge creation through innovative research and teaching, and dissemination of the same to the students, is integral to the IIT system of education. Building a global citizen is also its education focus.

IIT Ropar is amongst the eight new IITs to become operational. The Institute with 40 students each in the disciplines of Computer Science, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering started running from its mentor institute campus at IIT Delhi from 23 July, 2008. The temporary campus for IIT Ropar is set up with all the facilities as required. Class rooms fitted with multimedia, faculty rooms administrative wing are all in place. There are three hostels; two for boys and one for girls equipped with modern messing units in place and operational. Faculty recruitment, creation of laboratories and other support facilities are in full swing. The Institute is operating from the transit campus at Ropar from this session and has started the classes from 18th August 2009. The Government of Punjab has provided 500 acres of land at a scenic location near the banks of Sutlej river for IIT Ropar. Appointment of consultants and architects for building the new campus has begun.

We hope that the students admitted at IIT Ropar would use this opportunity to realize their full potential and bring out the best in them. We are sure that the excellent academic environment and the opportunity to participate in co-curricular activities will also help them in developing their personality and in their all-round development.
