Description

The International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) was established in 1956. It has established itself as the premier Institute for training and research in Population Studies for developing countries in the Asia and Pacific region. IIPS holds a unique position among all the regional centres, in that it was the first such centre to be started, and serves a much larger population than that served by any of the other regional centres. The Institute is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.


 

  • Diploma in Population Studies (DPS)

    Eligibility criteria for admission:- Admission to this course is open to all those with a Bachelor’s degree/ equivalent of an acceptable standard from any Indian/ foreign university. Documented qualification is essential for enrolling in the programme.

    Number of seats:- There are 50 seats available for admission to this course. However, the Institute reserves the right to decide the number of students to be enrolled in each academic session.

    Selection criteria:- Selection of candidates for the course will be done by a selection committee duly constituted by the Director of the Institute. Preference will be given to candidates having experience in population, Health and /or in allied areas.

    Duration of course:-
    This course can be completed in a minimum period of one year, as well within a maximum period of three years.

  • Master of Population Studies (MPS)

    Eligibility criteria for admission:- Admission to this course is open to all those with a Master's degree from any recognized University in any of the Social Science subjects including Mathematics, Statistics, Health & allied subjects. Preference will be given to candidates having experience in population, Health and /or in allied areas.

    Number of seats:-
    There are 100 seats available for admission to this course. However, the Institute reserves the right to decide the number of students to be enrolled in each academic session.

    Selection criteria:- Selection of candidates for the course will be done by a selection committee duly constituted by the Director of the Institute.

    Duration of course:- This course can be completed in a minimum period of two years, as well within a maximum period of four years.

     

  • Master of Population Studies (MPS)/ Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Population Studies

    This programme is designed to inculcate fundamentals of population studies and interface of population with other disciplines of social science, development and public policy.

    Duration:-
    One year

    Eligibility Criteria:-
    Applicants should hold a Master Degree in Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology, Geography, Social Work, Population Studies, Mathematics or Statistics from a recognized University. Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination and expecting results by June this year can also apply for admission.

    Admission Criteria:-
    The Institute selects students through a written admission test followed by a personal interview. The weighed score of qualifying examination, admission test and personal interview is the basis of selection on merit. Indian applicants called for admission test can claim sleeper-class, round-trip fare on production of original travel documents. Local travel cost is not reimbursed. Foreign applicants fulfilling the admission requirements are exempted from the admission test.

  • Ph.D (Population Studies)

    Ph.D (Population Studies) is designed to prepare students for professional leadership in the field of population well as for pursuing academic career.

    Eligibility criteria for admission :-
    Candidates having Master's or M.Phil. degree in Population Studies of recognised university with at least 55% of marks or equivalent grade (B+); and/or Candidates who have passed National Educational Testing (NET) in Population Studies conducted by the University Grants Commission are eligible of Ph.D. admission. However, in case of those who do not have Masters degree in Population Studies will have to undergo one year Masters degree Programme in Population Studies at the Institute.

    Selection criteria:-

    • Candidates will be short-listed for presentation of research proposal and interview on the basis of their past academic records. Selection of candidates for the course will be made on the basis of candidates past academic records, presentation of research proposal and personal interview.
    • Only short-listed candidates will be called for the presentation and interview. The Institute shall not bear any travel expense of the candidates called for the presentation and interview. Reservation for Scheduled Castes /Scheduled Tribes candidates will be considered as per the UGC norms.
