Ismail Yusuf College of Arts, Commerce & Science, as it is popularly known, is managed by Government of Maharashtra. It is the oldest College in North Mumbai. It was established in1930 with a big treasure-trove of donation from Sir Mohammed Yusuf Ismail, K.T., on the Jogeshwari Hill admeasuring 60 acres approximately. The foundation stone was laid by Sir Leslie Orme Wilson, Governor of Bombay in 1924. The vision of the founding fathers shaped up a temple of learning in the sandstone in the regal Persian style with arches and spacious corridors, surrounded by countless big abundantly bearded banyans and palms stretching heavenward dotting the horizon.
History of the College shows that our students have succeeded in all fields of life. Only to name a fewL Shri. A.R. Antulay (Ex-Chief Minister, Maharashtra), Shri. P.L. Deshpande (a giant figure in literary and cultural activities), Dr. Rafique Zakaria, Dr. A.U. Shaikh (retd. I.A.S.), Snehaprabha Pradhan, Shri. R.N. Haldipur (Retd. Lt. Governor, Pondichery, NEFA), SHri K.P. Medhekar (I.P.S., Retd. D.G.P., Maharashtra).
The campus enjoys the beautiful nature with innumerable banyan and palm trees. Rippling brooks and glittering ponds add the beauty in the rainy season. The nature and the environment reminds us of a typical ‘Gurukul Environment’. The campus relieves the tired mind from polluted and crowed city life.
There is an oval shaped garden in front of the main building with a fountain in it and countless trees with platforms rounded them. A number of building projects are in the pipeline. On the Jogeshwari Hill uninterrupted academic and non-academic activities are going on for our students every year.
