Kelappaji College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Tavanur was established by the Government of India in the year 1963 and is the only Agricultural Engineering college in Kerala. The College is affiliated to Kerala Agricultural University. The college is named after the veteran freedom fighter and well known social reformer Sri.K.Kelappan, who is popularly known as 'Kerala Gandhi'. In 1985 the institute was again renamed as Kelappaji College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology. The 99 hectare of land for the institute was donated by Sri.Vasudevan Nambudiri of Tavanur Mana for the noble cause. In 1975 the institute was taken over by Kerala Agricultural University and was renamed as Institute of Agricultural Technology (IAT). IAT offered Diploma in Agrl. Science, Diploma in Agrl. & Rural Engineering etc
