Description

Many students in the country have a dream to pursue their engineering degree from National Institute of Technology-Jamshedpur. The college being one of the best engineering institutes in the country one will find many scholar minds in the campus which creates proper academic environment for the students. NIT was founded in the year 1960 by Dr. Srikrishna Sinha. It is located in the outskirts of the city away from the city chaos, so the students can give their 100% performance for the studies. The college has emerged as a leading engineering institute by imparting quality education since its inception.

  • B.Tech (Civil Engineering)

    Duration:- 4 years

    Out of total seats of 390 available in this institute, 50% (195 seats) are reserved for candidates qualifying from the state in which the institute is located and rest 50% (195 seats) are reserved for the other candidates based on the population of the respective state, which is decided by MHRD, Govt. of India.
    For 195 seats allotted to the students of other states, the respective National Institute of Technology of the state nominate the students for the admission at this institute on the basis of the combine entrance examinations conducted by AIEEE. The reservation policy of the Central Govt. was followed in nominating the students from S.C /S.T. categories.
    Few seats (decided by Ministry of Foreign affairs, Govt. of India, New Delhi) are reserved for the students of foreign nations, which are nominated by ICCR, New Delhi.

The students are awarded letter grades from Excellent (Ex) to fail (F) depending on their over all performance. The academic section coordinates the over all examination. The results are assessed by either the Under Graduate program Evaluation Committee (UGPEC) or Post Graduate Evaluation Committee (PGPEC) & then sent to the Senate for approval. The students have to maintain a CGPA of 6.0 to continue beyond their first year of study. Supplementary examinations are organized in the summer quarter.

  • MCA (Master of Computer Applications)

    In order to meet the growing demand of software professionals in the country a three-year full time MCA programme is offered at the Institute by the department of Computer Applications. After successful completion of this course, a candidate is absorbed as software Engineer, System Analyst, System Executive, System Manager, etc.

    It is a 3 year (6 semester) full time course. The students undergo a thorough class room teaching and extensive laboratory work in which they develop software in the areas like Information Technology, Business Intelligence, Decision Support System etc. During first five semesters, the students are taught subjects like Computer Organization, Data Base Management System, Computer Graphics, Computer Networking, SAD, Decision Support System, Business Intelligence, Accounting & Financial Management, Marketing Management, Operations Management, ERP, Supply Chain Management, Artificial Intelligence and Expert Systems, etc.

    In the 6th. Semester, students do the project and thesis work in the Industry under the joint supervision of one faculty from the department and one expert from the respective industry on the live project. After the completion of the MCA programme students are recruited to reputed organizations, such as IBM, AMDOCS, TCS, SATYAM, PCS, HCL, WIPRO, HUGES, TATA STEEL, and many others.
         
                 
    Course Structure for MCA Programme:
    The MCA course is of six semester duration. The course work and laboratory classes are covered during the first five semesters each of 27 credits. In the last semester the students are sent to the Industries and or Research organizations/ Business organization for their project/ thesis work. The project work is of 25 credits. Thus the total credits in the programme is 160 as given below:
     

    Eligibility       
    Candidates with a bachelor's degree of minimum 3 years duration in any discipline with Mathematics at the (10 + 2) school level or at the Bachelor's level or BCA are eligible. Those candidates who are appearing at the Bachelor's degree Examination and fulfill the above mentioned criteria are also eligible but they will have to furnish the result of the Bachelor's degree examination before a stipulated date. The admission is granted by the Institute as per Government policy and the score of NIMCET. Indian Nationals are only eligible to apply.
         
    Distribution of seats : The distribution of seats for MCA Programme is as follows:
    50% of the seats for the state of Jharkhand.
    Rest 50% for other states of the country.
    15% & 7.5% for SC & ST candidates respectively.
         
    A candidate belongs to the state from where he has passed the qualifying examination (graduate programme). In case of distance learning, the state in which head quarter of the degree awarding body is situated will be the state of the candidates obtaining degrees form such organization / institution.

  • Ph.D Programe

     

    The award of the Ph.D. degree is made on the basis of satisfactory performance of a registered candidate in

      The thesis submitted by the candidate and a final viva voce.
     
         
      Eligibility  
     

    Candidates must possess Master Degree in Engineering (in the relevant fields) or Science or MCA or MBA or its equivalent from a recognized University with at least 60% marks (or a CGPA of 6.5 in a 10 point scale) in the qualifying examination.

     
         
      Residential Requirement  
     

    Normally a candidate admitted to the Ph.D. program will be required to stay in the institute till he/she completes all assigned course work and submits his/her thesis. The minimum residential requirement shall, however be one year for a candidate who has completed the course work and at least a part of the research work and has been registered for the Ph.D. degree.

     
         
      Registration  
     

    A candidate is required to give a seminar talk on the topic of his research within one year of enrolment or within one year of completion of the course work as the case may be. A candidate who has been registered for the Ph.D. program can be permitted to become non-resident on the specific recommendation of the D.S.C. provided the candidate has stayed in the Institute for a minimum period of one year. The thesis for the Ph.D. degree must, however, be submitted within the prescribed period.

     
       

Infrastructure

Situated in the heart of the affluent mineral and industrial belt of Jharkhand State, the campus encompasses the Main building, the Library, the Computer Center, 9 Boys’ hostels and 2 Girls’ hostels, staff quarters, Guest House, a Students’ Gymkhana, a Post-office , a branch of State Bank of India, an ATM, central store and a dispensary. The hostels and departments are connected with high speed wireless LAN. The institute maintains courts for basketball, volleyball, badminton and tennis. Apart from this, it also has cricket, hockey and football grounds.
