Ramgarhia Girls College, Miller Ganj, Ludhiana, a Pioneer educational insitution in the Punjab State, was established in the year 1970 on the occasion of quincentenary celebrations of  Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji.

The inspiration behind this institution Late Baba Gurmukh Singh, a great philanthropist. Striving for excellence since its inception, the college has been on the forefront of women's education under the able stewardship and patronage of  Late Giani Bhagat Singh Ji and Late S. Jagat Singh Ji and at present is being efficiently run under the patronage of S. Ranjodh Singh President, Ramgarhia Educational Council. Having dedicated 36 glorious years to the noble cause of women's empowerment, the college enjoys a rare distinction of winning top positions and gold medals in academics, sports and cultural activities.

The College is situated in the heart  of this industrial city Ludhiana in a magnificent building. The students receiving education in this institution belong to socially and economically low strata of society. The institution mainly caters to the needs of Backward and Scheduled caste students hailing from poverty-stricken areas predominantly inhabited by the labour class living  on daily wages . It is next to impossible for the poor parents to provide chances for higher education to their daughters. The college authorities leave no stone unturned in collection finances from various possible sources such as generous industrialists, societies and organizations, who voluntarily donate money for the needy and deserving students much liberally . There is no denying the fact that without the financial help and encouragement of college authorities, students coming from such a humble background would be deprived of the chance of much-needed education to make them self-reliant and confident.

To begin with, the college imparted education in Humanities And in 1985-86, The Faculty of commerce was introduced, thus catering to the needs of commerce-aspirant students. The college attained the status of Post-Graduate institute with the introduction of Masters Degree in Music Vocal in 1991-92. Marching ever onwards , ushering in new vistas in the field of knowledge and learning , B.C.A. Degree Course and U.G.C. sponsored subject of Advertising, Sales Promotion and Sales Management for the students of B.A. as an elective subject were started in 1996-97. Another feather was added to the cap of this institution with the commencement of Post-Graduate Diploma  in Computer Applications (PGDCA) and Master of Science in Information Technology (M.Sc. I.T.) classes from the session 2001-02.

In the session 2003-04, U.G.C sponsored vocational subjects-Computer Applications and Early Childhood Care and Education (E.C.C.E.), M.A. (Punjabi) and Diploma in Marketing Management were introduced. Continuing the expansion program, Add-on subjects-Gemology and Jewellery Designing, Apparel Designing and Cosmetology were started from the session 2004-05 in which students are awarded Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma in their first, second and third year of study. In the same year the subject of Sociology was also introduced . This year three new Add-On-Courses-Travel and Tourism, Banking and Insurance and Web Designing and Multimedia have been introduced.

The college has spacious lecture rooms, a well stocked library, fully furnished Home Science and Fine Arts Labs, a state-of-the art gymnasium, air-conditioned Computer-Labs, a seminar room, a multi-purpose hall with a seating capacity of 2000, a hygienic canteen and lush green lawns. Outstation students can avail of hostel facility with boarding and lodging facilities.

The college aims at imparting quality education for the empowerment of women.
