Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) was created under an Act of the J&K State Legislature in 1999 as a fully residential technical University, the first of it's kind in J&K. Recognized by UGC under Section 2(f) & 12(B) of the UGC Act of 1956, the university receives funding from UGC
The University is located on 470 acres of land in the lap of Trikuta Hills, the abode of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi at about 2700 feet above the sea level. The pyramidal type architecture merge beautifully with the valley like ambience of the surrounding serene hills.
The University has four Colleges consisting of twelve Schools which promote six Undergraduate and nine Postgraduate programmes besides Ph.D. and Post doctoral research fellowship.
