The Silchar Medical College & Hospital remains the only referral hospital in the southern part of Assam and so, is the sole custodian of health care system of the entire Barak Valley. Silchar Medical College Hospital The college logo of Silchar Medical College is purely symbolic. It was designed by Mr. Trailokya Nath Dutta Choudhury, an artist of the Dept. of Anatomy, SMC on the basis of the initial idea given by the founder principal Dr. Rudra Goswami.
The rising sun signifies spread of knowledge of Medicine throughout the world and the sea signifies vastness of humanity. The stick and the snake are the symbols of Mercury, the God of Medicine in old Greek Legends. The God was supposed to cure diseases by snake bite. The yellow colour in the boundary signifies courage and sacrifice. The two bunches of crops signify productivity. 'Sarbe Santa Niramaya' means - may everybody be disease free.
