Sri Aurobindo Society is an international non-governmental organization recognised by the Government of India as a charitable and research institute. It was founded in 1960 by The Mother to spread the aims and ideals of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother and work for its fulfillment in all possible ways. It also propagates their system of integral yoga, and works for the realization of a spiritual society as envisioned by Sri Aurobindo. The Society strives for a new world order based on spirituality,
The Society is to transform the whole of life and therefore nothing is excluded from its comprehensive programme. Each aspect of human life is to be raised to its highest possibility under the direct touch and guidance of a higher consciousness by invoking it in all our endeavours. This dynamic application of spirituality to life is reflected in its motto: To know is good, to live is better, to be, that is perfect.
In pursuit of propagating this message, the Society has published a large number of books and study material on diverse aspects in Indian and foreign languages, and also brought out CD-ROMs, audio and video CDs and cassettes. It has also produced a number of documentary films that have been telecast on national television. It is done with the aim of bringing together all those who want to dedicate themselves to the advent of a new world, with no distinction of nationality, caste, creed, religion or sex.
The Society has a large membership and more than 400 centres spread all over India and around the world. This includes the Delhi centre which was established in 1970. It is deeply involved in several projects in education, health, management, youth and women, with special emphasis on India and its culture.
