The establishment of the Engineering College is largely due to the vision of the late Fr. William Borges, S.J. He was the Principal of St. Xavier’s Technical Institute at Mahim, forty years ago. He had the vision to develop this place as a Centre of Excellence for Engineering Education. Unfortunately during his lifetime and due to paucity of funds, he could not make his dream come true.It is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, recognized by the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra and affiliated to the University of Mumbai.
The present Jesuit Provincial and Chairman of the Bombay Xaverian Corporation, the parent body of various Jesuit Trusts / Societies in Mumbai is Fr. Francis de Melo, S.J. He is a visionary who also headed St. Xavier’s Technical Institute as Principal for almost twenty years and was instrumental in the realization of late Fr. Borges’ dream. Thus the Xavier Institute of Engineering came into existence in 2005.
