Accountabilities and responsibilities:

Following are the verticals that a Application Support Manageris responsible for:

Application Support and Maintenance –Ensuring our services are available and fit for purpose.
Vendor management – Managing and building relationships with vendors
TCO – Drive reduction of TCO for the application or landscape
Resilience and Availability – Ensure Availability and Resilience of Applications.
Build Talent and Teams – Invest in building talent

Driving Innovations

Ensure that the Service Providers deliver IT services (Application Support and Application Maintenance) in accordance with the agreed scope & service level agreement (SLA) for Supply Chain portfolio, in accordance with all applicable performance metrics, including CPIs, KPIs, ESR, user satisfaction targets, operating level agreements and underpinning contracts.
Ensure that Service Providers resolve incidents and issues in an efficient and effective manner, and that the root cause analysis studies are conducted and clear improvement plans are identified
Ensure that service requests (SRs) are implemented according to the agreed SLA
Establishes problem resolution procedures and defines consequences of non-compliance
Works with Service Delivery teams during issue escalation for coordination, planning and reviews
Work with Service Providers to plan for progressively reducing incidents, improving availability of services and thereby increasing user/client satisfaction.

Vendor Management

Engage with Third Party Vendor teams to deliver Service Levels
Hold vendors accountable for quality and timeliness of deliveries through governance mechanisms
Ensure the right level of skills and knowledge exists within teams to be able to run Application Support operations at all times.
Partner with Suppliers to together deliver a World Class Application Operation Organization.

Drive TCO

Manage Support costs to ensure Application Management Services are delivered at the right price to the Business.
Deliver above responsibilities within an agreed financial charging structure and budget.
Continuously review and seek opportunities to deliver Application Support Services within agreed costs and below.

Resilience and Availability

Bring in or operate pro-active measures to measure service performance.
Plan for and ensure Proactive Application maintenanceto prevent unplanned disruption due to incompatibility of software versions & incomplete/untested release packages
Ensure high availability of Applications to the Unilever business by designing and deploying high quality maintenance plans, covering backup, archiving, housekeeping, health checks, job runs, administration, etc.
Working in coordination with the Program Innovation teams and managing the transition of application management responsibility from the Innovation team to Application Maintenance Team.
Ensure minimal business disruption. In case of a disruption, resolve the issue and the root cause with less downtime

Build Talent and Teams

Help build and retain functional and technical knowledge in house , as part of the ETSC agenda.

Relevant Exp:


Educated to bachelor degree level.
Has extensive previous experience at Unilever or similar organisation of in IT application support and maintenance processes, operating ITIL / PRISM processes and working with external support relationships.
Experience in managing large scale ERP or applications implementations for global organisations.
Technical Knowledge,like SAP Functional & Technical modules
Sound understanding of business processes – order to cash, purchase to pay etc – and the way it impacts thebusiness.
Knowledge of areas such as software development lifecycle, IT strategy, IT process excellence, six sigma, IT portfolio management, ERP packages.
Is familiar with all aspects of Application Support & Maintenance and Service Delivery.
Possesses up to date knowledge of significant areas of operational and/or development environments.
Shows a thorough understanding of applicable project management and/or operational management standards and procedures including technical, quality, safety and financial matters across all areas of service delivery.
Shows a good understanding of IT Vendor Landscape
Shows a good understanding of contracting and commercial aspects of service management.
Displays good inter-personal skills at all levels of contact and in a wide variety of situations.
Demonstrates the ability to make, and take responsibility for, sound and far reaching decisions on major technical and service delivery issues.
Has the experience and cultural awareness required to work effectively with a global team.
Possesses a good understanding of the business process areas involved in the Customer Development business function (e.g. Retail Execution, Promotions, Trade Profitability  etc.)


May have a postgraduate qualification such as an MSc, MBA, or other business or scientific qualification
Relevant professional certification (ITIL, CMMI, SAP Certification, Chartered IT Professional etc)
