The Buryat State University (BSU) was established in 1932 as Buryat State Teachers’ Training College, and it became a University in 1995. The institution Buryat State University is located in the city of Ulan-Ude, the capital of the Republic of Buryatia, Russia. Founded in 1666, Ulan-Ude is situated 5500 kmfrom Moscow, the capital of Russia, and 450 km from Ulan-Bator (the capital of Mongolia). Ulan-Ude is located not far from the world famous lake Baikal (the world's deepest fresh-water lake) and is the largest center of education, culture and tourism in Siberia.
The university now has 12 colleges and four institutes, two vocational schools, a postgraduate school, a medical internship school, and a medical residency school. It also hosts the Centres of Strategic Oriental Research and of Pre-University training. BSU offers degrees in almost every academic discipline of a modern university, including biology, geography, physical education, chemistry, social and pyschological studies, sociology, law and medicine, BSU's current enrolment is 13000 students and the university has about 2000 faculty members and staff. BSU counts three branches: the Bohan branch (Bohan settlement, Ust-Orda Buryat National district), the Ulan-Bator branch (the city of Ulan-Bator, Mongolia), and the Aga branch of the university (Aginskoe settlement, Aga Buryat National district).
