About Fukuoka Prefectural University (FPU)
Fukuoka Prefectural University (FPU) is one of three universities under the jurisdiction of the prefectural government in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. The others are Fukuoka Women's University and  Kyushu Dental College. FPU can trace its roots back to the founding of the Fukuoka College of Childcare in 1952, and was granted university status forty years later in 1992. Initially, the university consisted of just one faculty (the Faculty of Integrated Human Studies and Social Sciences) incorporating three departments: the Department of Sociology, the Department of Social Welfare, and the Department of Human Development and Education. In 2003, FPU opened a new School of Nursing in response to Japan's aging population and the need for more healthcare professionals. The School of Nursing represents a substantial investment by the people of Fukuoka Prefecture, and provides state-of-the-art facilities and an exceptionally high standard of training for the nurses of the future.

With a student populace of around 1,100, FPU is by no means a large university. Nevertheless, our excellent reputation, curriculum and facilities have succeeded in attracting students from all over Japan. At FPU, we believe in helping our students achieve their full potential in order for them to gain a sense of self-fulfillment and make a meaningful contribution to society

FUKUOKA PREFECTURAL UNIVERSITY is situated in Tagawa, about 40 kilometers from Fukuoka City on the island of Kyushu in south-western Japan (see location). Though educational facilities had existed on the site for many years previously, the university was founded in 1992 and initially consisted of the three departments of Sociology, Social Welfare, and Human Development and Education within a single Faculty of Integrated Human Studies and Social Sciences.

At Present university firmly established as one of the leading universities in western Japan and have approximately 1,100 students and 110 teaching staff with the most up-to-date facilities for study and research. Many of our staff speak foreign languages and we are all extremely interested in further developing the university by fostering links with academic institutions in other parts of the world.
