The University of Atlanta, founded in 2006, is a distinctive institution of higher education, accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC – nationally recognized by the United States Department of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation - CHEA), offers exclusively online cutting-edge programs in a spectrum of highly marketable fields at both the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree levels. The institution’s virtual learning center is of the highest caliber: technologically sophisticated, charged with resource possibilities, and in all ways user-friendly. As a function of its never-ending reach for distinction, the University has been the beneficiary of significant signs of recognition: as one of few US-based institutions of higher education approved for membership in the European Association for Distance Learning (EADL); as a member of DANTES, which provides funding to servicemen in all branches of the American military; as an approved member of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the only body of the United Nations with a specific mandate in higher education.

The National Advisory Council of the University (chaired by the University Provost and Executive Vice-President of Operations) is comprised of sixty (60) distinguished scholars, field specialists, acclaimed practitioners & consultants, whose authoritative command and expertise ensure curricular distinction in all degree programs offered, while continuing to buttress the university’s status in higher education.
Strategic outreach initiatives have been specifically fashioned so as to substantiate that all programs are available and accessible to broad national and international student populations world-wide who manifest the desire and capacity for higher learning. A powerful, multi-faceted support system is in place to foster success of students and to maximize the university experience.
A host of recently-developed initiatives (the founding of a new journal, Virtualities: International Review of Distance Learning – Library of Congress ISSN: 1941-7373, the inauguration of a new annual symposium series on Distance Learning, the naming of Provostial Fellows in recognition of outstanding achievement and promise, as but three of many examples) signal the breadth and scope of the university’s vision, its unwavering commitment to the high-pitched standards, to accelerated momentum as well as its resolve to offer programs of first-tier caliber via the most progressive and effective modes of delivery.
