This competitive agricultural research services examination is conducted for recruitment of scientists in Agricultural Research under various streams.

This exam is consists of two parts namely

a) ASRB ARS Preliminary Exam
b) ASRB ARS Main Exam

The ASRB ARS Preliminary exam is a qualifying examination however it';s marks are not considered for determining the final merit list of ASRB ARS pass candidates. Aspirants wishing to be considered for scientist vacancies in Agriculture Research Services (ARS) are required to appear for both prelim, main exam and viva-voce. Since a pass in the preliminary examination is compulsory for all candidates only those candidates who qualify the ARS 2016 (Prelim) Exam will be eligible to appear for ARS (Main) Examination.

ASRB ARS 2016 vacancy positions:-

Name of individuals who qualify the ASRB ARS exam 2016 (main) will be suggested for appointment as Scientists in the Agricultural Research Services of the Indian Council of the Agricultural Research (ICAR) in Pay Band-III of 15,600-39,100 plus Research Grade Pay of  6,000/-.

ASRB ARS Eligibility:-

a) Age: Individuals aged between 21 and 32 years of age as on 01.01.2017 are eligible to apply.

b) Educational qualification:-

• Master’s Degree or equivalent in the concerned discipline with specialization as defined in Appendix-V completed on or before 8.07.2017.
•Candidates who have appeared at an examination, the passing of which would make them eligible to appear at the ARS– 2016 Examination but have not been informed of the results, may apply for admission to the ARS-2016 Examination.
•Candidates who intend to appear at such a qualifiying examination are also eligible to apply.

ASRB ARS 2016 Exam and Paper Pattern:-

This exam is divided into three parts:-

1.ARS (Preliminary) (Objective Type) 150 Marks and  2 hours duration
2.ARS (Main) (Descriptive Type) 240 Marks and 3 hours duration
3.Viva-voce 

1. ARS- (Preliminary) (Objective Type)

Total Marks: 150 Marks
Duration: 2 hours duration
Type of questions: Multiple Choice type Questions (MCQ)
Format of exam: Online
Negative Marking: 1/3 marks for wrong answer.
The total marks obtained will be rounded off to the next higher integer in case of 0.5 and above and to the immediate lower integer in case of 0.4 and below

Minimum marks required for qualifiying ASRB ARS 2016 preliminary exam:
Un-reserved(UR) (General): 45%
OBC(Non-Creamy layer): 40%
SC / ST/ Person with Disability (PwD): 35%

2. ARS (Main) (Descriptive Type)

Total Marks: 240 Marks
Duration: 3 hours duration
The paper shall be divided in three parts A, B and C.
Part ‘A’ will consists of 40 (forty) questions of 2 (two) marks each. In this part, answers required will be of very short, not exceeding 10 (Ten) words at the most.
Part ‘B’ will have 20 (twenty) questions of 5 (five) marks each requiring one or two paragraphs and/or graphic explanation.
Part ‘C’ will have 6 (six) essay type or descriptive type questions. Each question will carry 10 (ten) marks and may have two or more parts.
Marking scheme: The candidates who obtain such minimum qualifying marks in the Main Examination as may be fixed by the Board in its discretion, shall be called for viva-voce in the ratio of 1:5 (category-wise) for each post.

3.Viva-voce 

Candidates will be interviewed by a Board of competent and unbiased experts in the respective disciplines, who will have before them a record of his/her career. The object of the viva-voce is to assess his/her suitability for the Service for which he/she has competed.
