IGNOU Ph.D in Library & Information Science Minimum Duration: 2 Years Maximum Duration: 5 Years Eligibility:- An MPhil Degree and a Post-Graduate Degree in a relevant discipline with minimum fifty-five percent marks (fifty percent marks for SC/ ST/ PH candidates) or an equivalent grade from a university or a recognised institution of higher training; OR Masters Degree in a relevant discipline with minimum fifty-five per cent marks (fifty percent marks for SC/ ST/ PH candidates) or an equivalent grade from a university or a recognised institution of higher learning and five years of teaching/ industry/ administration/ professional experience at senior level. PhD in Library Science from Delhi University:- I - Categories of students /researchers who can be registered for Ph.D. 1. 1 Students in the following categories may be registered provisionally in the Ph.D. programme through DRC (wherever applicable) and BRS. A. Students who are in receipt of any of the following types of fellowships/stipends: A1 University Teaching Assistantships A2 JRF through UGC/NET or CSIR/NET A3 Fellowships of CSIR/ICAR/ICSSR/ICHR/ICMR/DBT/DST or from any other recognised Government institutions/organizations. A4 Rajiv Gandhi Fellowships for SC/ST from UGC A5 SAP fellowships from UGC A6 Project JRF/Project Assistant A7 Candidates with UGC (non-NET) fellowships RS.5, 000/-fellowship under the new scheme. B. Teachers of the University of Delhi and its affiliated colleges. C. Foreign students with their own fellowships Students shall have the freedom to choose their research supervisor {through consultation with and consent of the chosen supervisor provided a seat is available at the following overall level: Professor (8), Associate Professor (6), and Assistant Professor (4)}. II Guidelines for Selection 2.1 Process of selection for each category of students (A 1 to A7), as indicated in the Part 1 above) shall be as under:- A1. Procedure provided in the guidelines for the University Teaching Assistantship.(Interview as per Annexure-I) A2. Letter of award of JRF from UGC or CSIR. A3. Letter of award of fellowship from the concerned funding agency. A4. Letter of award of fellowship from the funding agency. A5. Selection through an interview by a Committee consisting of the following: 1) An eminent scholar to be nominated by the Vice –Chancellor; 2) Head of the Department 3) One professor and one reader from the department, to be nominated by Vice –Chancellor; 4) Two experts from outside the university to be nominated by Vice –Chancellor. A6. Selection through an interview by a committee with composition as in A5 above with the modification in the composition that instead of two experts from outside of the university, Project P.I. and any other additional member as per guidelines of the funding agency will be the members. A7. (i) Letter of award of NET (LS) from UGC or CSIR. (No interview required) (ii) For others, selection will be through an interview by a committee with the following compositions:- (a) Vice-Chancellor’s Nominee: Chairperson (b) Head of the Department (c) Two faculty members (1 professor/1 reader) adopting the principle of rotation every year. B. However, number of students that can be taken in each department under this category shall be as per the stipulations in Annexure-II. Teacher of the University of Delhi and its affiliated colleges will be registered as per existing provisions in the Ordinance. C. Foreign Research students with fellowships from their country of origin and/ or recognised international agencies.
