Bodoland University was established in 2009. The present Bodoland University is an up-gradation of the Kokrajhar campus of Gauhati University to a full fledged state University as per the provision of the Act. The setting-up of the new university comes as a fulfillment of the dreams of the people of entire lower Assam, irrespective of caste, creed or economic status.

The University has strategic location with its spatial closeness to West Bengal, at a distance of 45 K.M, Bhutan around 50 K.M., and Bangladesh around 110 K.M. from Kokrajhar.

As the university campus is away from the din and bustle of the main town of Kokrajhar, a calm and quiet atmosphere prevails in this picturesque area. Surrounded by the river, Gaurang in the west, lush-green paddy-fields in the south, sleepy hamlets in the north and an enchanting park in the east, the ambience is suitable for uninterrupted study and research.
