Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya or University of Saugar was established in the year 1946 in  Sagar, Madhya Pradesh.It is spread over an area of 840 hectares. It is recognised by the UGC of India an " A " grade university.There are students from various locations coming to study different streams offered by the university.

This University has a rating of four out of five stars given by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Saugar University is the first university in the state to receive the 'A' grade by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC), showing that the institution is on par with leading universities of the country.The university is also a member of Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), United Kingdom.

Dr. Hari Singh Gour University has more than 36 university teaching departments. The main campus of the university is in Sagar City, and the university also has several affiliated colleges and a distance education wing. A medical college is being built in to train students in the field of medical science.
