  sir, i am 3rd year engineering student (branch- computer, mumbai univesity). plz guide me, am i eligible to join defence service in future?? if yes, what are the rules or the criterias for the above.....

Dear Deepa,

Combined Defence Service exam is conducted by UPSC twice every year for recruitment to office cadre of the Army, Navy and Air force. CDS exam is conducted generally in the months of May and October. 

Candidates qualifying the written test are interviewed by the Service Selection Board and if finally selected, depending upon the choice given by the candidates and their merit list ranking, are sent to one of the following institutes for orientation training: -

(a) Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun
(b) Naval Academy, Goa
(c) Air Force Academy, Begumpet, Hyderabad
(d) Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai

Dear Deepa,

CDS exam is conducted under the Civil Service. the minimum qualification required is B.Sc. of a recognized University or equivalent with Physics and/or Mathematics as subjects or Bachelor of Engineering.
The exam takes place twice a year and the age limit is between 19-23 years.
CDS exam would include sections like :
English, General Knowledge, Elementary Mathematics, Mensuration, Geometry, Statistics. There are many reference texts that you may consider depending on your area of interest:
Asian CDS by R.P.Verma,
Referring to NCERT books shall also be of great help,
CDSE, Datason RP,
R.S.Agarwal for Arithematic
Arihant Publication for Reasoning and many more.

Dear Ankit,

The Educational Qualification required to sit for IPS Examination is a graduation degree from a recognized University. Apart from this the other criterion which you have to fulfill in order to sit for IPS examination are that you need to be an India National & your age should be not more than 30. So if you meet these criterions you can go ahead and apply for IPS Examination.

Dear Aakash,

After class XII with commerce, you can pursue graduation and may also apply for professional courses like the five year integrated law degree course, or the three or four-year hotel management degree course or Bachelor of Fine Arts in fine arts/ applied art or an undergraduate programme in design, fashion design or allied programmes that are suitable for those with aptitude for drawing/ sketching. Courses for commerce students include the traditional B.Com, B.Com course with vocational courses like taxation, computer applications, etc, B. Com (Banking & Insurance) and B.Com (Accounting & Finance) and they can also apply for Bachelor's in Business Studies/ Administration, BMS, BMM, BCA, economics or switch to BA. Alongside B.Com value-addition could be through the insurance qualifications offered by the Insurance Institute of India (www.insuranceinstituteofindia.com) or actuarial training.
